A 2-way bet (also called a 1 2 bet) involves betting on two possible results. This type of bet is common for sports with no draws (e.g. tennis). Either the first prediction is correct = 1 or the second prediction is correct = 2.
Numerous special bets on sports with only two possible outcomes are also 2-way.
A 3-way bet (also called a 1X2 bet) involves betting on three possible results. This type of bet is common for sports that can also end in a draw (football, ice hockey, etc.).
Either the first prediction is correct = 1, the second prediction is correct = X or the third prediction is correct = 2.
A 3-way bet is normally on the result after regular time (exceptions can be found in the bet details or in the Terms and Rules)
The double chance option (also called DC) allows two out of the three predictions under a 3-way bet to be covered at the same time, which also increases the likelihood of winning. The possible predictions are 1X, 12 or X2. The 1X prediction is a bet on a home win or a draw, the X2 prediction is on a draw or an away win and the 12 prediction is on a home win or an away win.
Example: Bets are taken on the outcome of a match between FC Lugano and FC Sion. If the match ends in a home win for FC Lugano, a bet predicting either 1X or 12 wins.
The European handicap bet is an extended form of the 3-way bet where one team is given an imaginary whole number handicap (either positive or negative) which is chosen from a default selection (e.g. in the form of goals, points, etc.).
The handicap is added onto or subtracted from the regular time result of the actual event. This means that the official result plus or minus the imaginary handicap are needed to evaluate the bet.
NB: Since the handicap varies depending on the event and may be configured in several different ways, the number indicated in the betting programme applies.
Example: Bets are taken on the match between Juventus Turin and SSC Napoli with a handicap of -1 (minus 1). The handicap always applies to the first-named team. This gives Juventus Turin an imaginary negative handicap of one goal. The match ends 2-1 for Juventus Turin. Because of the negative handicap one goal has to be deducted from Juventus Turin at the end of the game.
The result including the handicap of -1 is 1-1 (2-1 – 1-0 = 1-1)
The bet is won if it was on prediction X (draw).
An over/under bet is a bet placed on whether the total number of goals, points, etc. scored in a sporting event will be over or under a chosen default threshold.
Example: Bets are taken on more than 5.5 goals being scored in the ice hockey match between HC Davos and SC Bern (over). The match ends 3-4 after regular time, giving a total goal count of 7 (3+4). This means that more goals were scored than the chosen default threshold (the 7 goals in total are more than 5.5), in which case the bet is won.
“Draw no bet” is a 3-way bet converted into a 2-way bet. Of the original three conceivable match outcomes (1 = home win, X = draw and 2 = away win), a draw (X) is eliminated under this bet. This produces a 2-way bet with only two possible results: home win (1) or away win (2).
However, if the match ends in a draw, the stake will be refunded.
NB: This type of bet is also offered as “home win no bet” and “away win no bet”. The principle remains the same. All that changes are the possible outcomes and the particular outcome which is eliminated and may trigger a refund if it should occur.
Example: Bets are taken on the outcome of a football match between FC Aarau and Servette FC. Bets can be placed on a home win for Aarau (1) or an away win for Servette (2). Bets cannot be placed on a draw since that option was eliminated.
The match ends in a 3-3 draw. Since this outcome was not one of the options available under the bet, the stake is refunded.
A result bet is a bet placed on the precise outcome of a sporting event. Unless otherwise indicated, the score after regular time is taken as the result. The bet wins if the result of the sporting event matches the pick.
NB: This type of bet can also be limited to the 1st or 2nd half only, in which case the bet will be assessed on the basis of the result in the half selected.
Example: Bets are taken on the exact result of a football match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. A score of 3-1 for FC Barcelona is selected as the exact result. The bet is won if Barcelona wins the match 3-1.
Example (2nd half result bet): A 2nd half result bet is placed on the match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, picking a result of 1-1. The match ends 3-1 with a half-time result of 2-0 for Barcelona. The bet is considered won since both teams score a goal in the second half, making the 2nd half result 1-1. The goals from the 1st half are not factored into the evaluation of the bet on the 2nd half. Only the goals scored in the 2nd half count.
A half-time/full-time bet is decided based on the run of play, i.e. which team is leading at half-time and which team wins after full-time. A draw is also a feasible outcome.
The possible predictions are shown in the table, with 1 standing for the first-named team, X a draw and 2 the second-named team.
Example: A bet predicting 2/X is placed on a football match between FC Lucerne and FC Lugano. At half-time FC Lugano is leading 2-0. FC Lucerne equalizes in the 2nd half to produce a final score of 2-2. The bet is won since FC Lugano (2) was leading at half-time, but the match ended in a draw (X). The 2/X prediction is correct.
An overall winner bet allows you to bet on the outcome of a tournament/race or season. The winner at the end of the event is relevant, i.e. (unless otherwise stipulated) the bet is not evaluated until after the event/season is over and the overall winner is known.
Example: A bet is placed on Borussia Dortmund to win the German Bundesliga. The bet will be won and paid out as soon as calculations show that Dortmund heads the season standings.
A place bet offers an opportunity to bet on an athlete/team getting a high placing. The exact condition to meet also needs to be factored in, e.g. “in the top three”.
If, say, a selected skier finishes the race in the top three, the bet is won. Precisely which of the three places he or she ends the race in is not important in terms of the bet.
Example: A bet is placed on Beat Feuz securing a podium position in the Wengen ski race. He ends up in 2nd place. The bet is won because Beat Feuz was ranked among the best three and so reached the podium.
A head-to-head bet (duel) is a bet on which of two rivals will achieve the better result (on a direct comparison by points, goals, placing or time) at the end of the sporting event. The bet is therefore based exclusively on the results of the two rivals selected.
EXAMPLE
Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton wins the head to head against Max Verstappen if he crosses the line before Verstappen. If neither driver crosses the line, the winner is the driver who exits last or in a later lap. If both drivers exit in the same lap, the bet is declared void.
Alpine skiing: The winner is the competitor with the best ranking at the end of the event. If both competitors exit in the second race, the winner is the competitor who was better ranked in the official ranking for the first race. The bet is declared void if both competitors exit in the first race or if either of the two competitors fails to compete.
FC Zurich is the clear favourite in the match against Lugano, which also means a three-quarter goal negative handicap (-0.5, 1). On the other hand, FC Lugano as clear outsider is given a three-quarter goal positive handicap (0.5, 1).
Let us assume that a bet is placed on FC Zurich.
• If FC Zurich wins the match by at least 2 goals, both bets are won at the respective odds.
• If the match ends in a win for FC Zurich with exactly one goal difference, half of the stake will be refunded on the handicap bet -1, and the bet -0.5 counts as won.
• If Lugano wins or the match ends in a draw, the entire bet counts as lost.
If under the same scenario a bet is placed on FC Lugano, the situation is as follows:
• If Lugano loses by exactly one goal difference, the handicap bet 0.5 is lost, and the stake will be refunded on handicap bet 1.
• In the event of a draw or a win for Zurich, both bets count as won.
• If Lugano loses by 2 or more goals, both bets are lost.
Asian Handicap 1
Under this type of Asian handicap bet the favourite must make up a negative handicap of one goal (-1) or the underdog (outsider) receives a one goal positive handicap (+1).
• If the favourite wins the match by a difference of 2 or more goals, the handicap bet -1 counts as won.
• If the favourite secures a victory with exactly one goal difference, all stakes will be refunded.
• With all other match outcomes (draw, outsider win) the handicap bet -1 counts as lost.
The Asian total goal bet is a 2-way bet that provides the option of wagering on whether the total number of goals/points scored is over or under a predefined threshold.
Unlike the European variant, there are not only half increments (1.5, 2.5 etc.), but also 0.25, 0.75 and 1.0 increases. What makes this bet special is that for specific outcomes the entire stake or a portion of it is paid back. It must be borne in mind that for Asian over/under bets half increments such as 1.5 or 2.5 are also displayed. In this case, the odds and the evaluation methods are no different from European over/under bets.
Asian total goal bets with whole number increments such as “total goals 2 (Asian, over/under, reg. playing time)” pay back the stake if exactly 2 goals are scored during the game. This provides the player with a hedge if precisely the threshold that was bet on is reached. For this reason, the odds are set somewhat lower than in the case of a total number of goals of 2.5.
Asian total goal bets with quarter increments are split into two. An Asian over 2.75 goals means that half the stake is bet on over 2.5 goals and the other half on over 3 goals (2.75 is the average of 2.5 and 3). A special feature of Asian bets is that the stake is paid back if exactly the total number of goals/points that was bet on is reached. If in this example 3 goals were to be scored, half of the bet is won (over 2.5 goals) and for the other bet half (over 3 goals), 1.00 is set, i.e. half the stake is paid back.
Below are some examples of Asian total goal bets taken from actual practice:
Total goals 1.0 (Asian, over/under, reg. playing time)
If you place an Asian bet on under 1.0 goal/point, this means the bet is won if the game ends goalless. If exactly one goal/point is scored, the stake is paid back, and from 2 goals/points or more the bet is considered lost.
In the case of an Asian bet on over 1.0 goal/point, the bet is lost if the game ends goalless. If exactly one goal/point is scored, the stake is likewise paid back, and from 2 goals/points upwards the bet is considered won.
Total goals 2.25 (Asian, over/under, reg. playing time)
In the case of Asian total goal bets with a quarter increment, half the stake is bet on over/under 2 goals and the other half on over/under 2.5 goals. Let’s say someone places a 10-franc Asian bet on over 2.25. Five francs will be bet on over 2 goals and 5 francs on over 2.5 goals. If the game ends 1:1, exactly 2 goals will have been scored. For the first part of the bet (over 2 goals) the stake is paid back. The second part of the bet (over 2.5 goals) counts as lost because only 2 goals are scored. If fewer than 2 goals are scored both bets are lost, and for 3 or more goals both bets count as won.
More detailed evaluation rules can be found in the table below.
Asian over/under | Goals/points scored | Evaluation of "over" x goals/points bet | Evaluation of "under" x goals/points bet |
0.5 | 0 1 2 or more | Lost Won Won | Won Lost Lost |
0.75 | 0 1 2 or more | Lost Won half / half of stake back Won | Won Lost half / half of stake back Lost |
1 | 0 1 2 or more | Lost Stake back Won | Won Stake back Lost |
1.25 | 0 1 2 or more | Lost Half of stake back / Lost half Won | Won Half of stake back / Won half Lost |
2 | 1 or less 2 3 or more | Lost Stake back Won | Won Stake back Lost |
2.25 | 1 or less 2 3 or more | Lost Half of Stake back / Won half Won | Won Half of Stake back / Won half Lost |
2.5 | 2 or less 3 4 or more | Lost Won Won | Won Lost Lost |
2.75 | 2 or less 3 4 or more | Lost Won half / Half of Stake back Won | Won Lost half / Half of Stake back Lost |
3 | 2 or less 3 4 or more | Lost Stake back Won | Won Stake back Lost |
The “Rest of the match” bet type is an extended form of the 3-way bet which is exclusively available for live bets. The extension lies in the determination of the winner for the match time remaining as of the time the bet was placed. The goals/points scored up to that point are not included when evaluating the bet, which is assumed to be an imaginary 0:0.
Example: A bet is placed on Tottenham as the winner of the rest of the match for the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool FC match. At the point in time at which the bet is placed in the 72nd minute of game time, the score is 0:2 to Liverpool. The match ends 2:3 to Liverpool. As the bet was placed while the match score was 0:2, the result for the rest of the match is 2:1 to Tottenham (2:3 – 0:2 = 2:1). So, the prediction that Tottenham would win the rest of the match (with a score of 0:2) is therefore correct. The bet is won.
TIP: This bet type is exclusively available for football, ice hockey, baseball and rugby.
For the “Next goal / next point” bet, a bet is placed on which of the two teams will score the next goal or next point. This bet can therefore apply to one part of a match, regular time, regular time including extra time, only extra time, only the penalty shoot-out or a predefined period. It is therefore important to note which period the bet applies to.
TIP: This bet type is exclusively available for football, ice hockey, and American football.
The “Next points (kind)” bet type is exclusively available for American football.
For this bet type, a bet can be placed on the way in which the next points are scored in the match.
Example: During a match between the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers with a current score of 21:14, a bet can be placed on whether the next points are scored by means of a touchdown, field goal, or safety, or whether no more points will be scored during the course of the match (X).
